Aman Burman

Welcome to my website

I am a passionate student interested in research at the intersection of
Physics, Cosmology, and Computer science. At high school,I have focused
on Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Further Mathematics. I have also
pursued research under the supervision of leading scientists in astrophysics,
cosmology, and natural language processing.

As a World Science Scholar (2021 cohort), I am collaborating with other
students, scientists and researchers on various real life projects. I would
like to continue exploring these areas and intend to further work on string
theory, quantum mechanics, black holes, gravitational wave detection with
LIGO, binary star systems, and particle physics in future. I plan to study
physics at the undergraduate and postgraduate level and aim to find answers
to some of the unsolved mysteries related to cosmology, black holes and
quantum physics.

Outside of physics, I am very passionate about addressing the lack of education
for underprivileged children. I created an online platform (www.prepsaurus.com)
providing course content on mathematics, physics, and coding. I am working with
NGOs and schools based in India, Africa and UNICEF (Learning Passport) to deliver
the content, organize live sessions and track the progress of 10000+ students
through this platform.

Academic Achievements

World Science Scholars

I was accepted to the prestigious World Science Scholars program where 40 of the top young mathematicians and scientists are selected annually to take part in a 2-year program. Each year a cohort of high school aged students from across the globe are selected to expand their mathematical abilities by applying math to the sciences as they participate in inspiring college-level experiences led by world-renowned scientists. Fields addressed range from astrobiology to computational programming to neuroscience. As a part of WSS, I was involved in cutting edge research alongside world-renowned scientists including Brian Greene, Stephen Wolfram, Cumrun Vafa and Suzana Herculano-Houzel among many others. I have also attended following courses as a part of WSS - Space Time and Matter by Professor Brian Greene, Vulnerable By Nature: Creating Phylogeny to understand cause of various diseases by Dr Barbara Natterson-Horowitz , MD and Cardiologist, UCLA, Aristotle's Four Forms of Causation by Dr George F.R Eliis (Astrophysicist) and Computational Language by Dr Stephen Wolfram.

Astronomy/Astrophotography

As a president of astronomy club at Dubai College for the last two years, I have been involved in teaching year 7 - 9 students on various topics of space and the universe every week. I have organized lesson plans, quiz and exciting workshops. Some of the topics that I have taught over the last couple of years are: Introduction to Astronomy, General Relativity, Dark Matter and Dark Energy, Higgs field, Theories for the Beginning of the Universe, The Big Bang, Asteroids, Quasars, Space Telescopes, Exomoon and Spectrometry, Wormholes, The Artemis Mission etc.
As a member of AAVSO and Dubai Astronomy Group, over the last few years I have developed interests in Astrophotography. I have been actively involved in taking photographs of stars, constellations, solar system objects and deep sky objects through my Meade 6-inch telescope and the other more advanced telescopes.

Community Engagement

Founder of Prepsaurus

Prepsaurus aims to provide high quality online course content free of cost. Students and teachers can supplement their learning by accessing a wide variety of online courses. Prepsaurus partnered with 20+ instructors for doubt clarification. The Idea of Prepsaurus was born in 2019 while running a physical summer camp for 30+ students at Rishikesh, India. The summer camp was run in collaboration with the Udaan Foundation. https://www.prepsaurus.com/

Udaan & Transform School

I organized two weeks' educational enrichment camp to work with Udaan Foundation and raised funds for underprivileged students in India. The students who took part in a 2-week long summer camp could not afford education. This was followed by a few camps organized in India and Rwanda. I am currently working actively with an NGO, Transform Schools and created STEM curriculum for underprivileged students. I have constructed and delivered a syllabus for Scratch, robotics, coding and artificial intelligence and signed an MOU with Transform Schools, to deliver STEM and coding courses for 5000 underprivileged children over the next 1 year. https://www.transformschools.in/ https://www.udaanindiafoundation.org/

Fawe, Rwanda & Unicef

Prepsaurus is associated with a school in Rwanda where 500+ students are using the platform and participating in live sessions. I have partnered with Fawe in Rwanda to work alongside students and the school management to deliver the content. With more than 5000+ users on this platform now, our student base is growing everyday. I am currently working with the Unicef team to have the content of Prepsaurus in their global learning platforms. I am also using this platform to disseminate knowledge on various advanced concepts in physics: special relativity, quantum mechanics, string theory, blackholes, gravitational waves, exoplanets/colonizing the universe. Rwanda

Charity Committee

As a head of charity committee, I have been actively engaged with the UWS (United World School) charitable program to build schools (UWS Jaisithok and Shree Jagdishwar School) and promote awareness for the educational needs of underprivileged children from Nepal. I have organized fund raising campaigns at DC focusing on Education For All and removing barriers for underprivileged children and also arranged fund raising for cancer patients. I have been an ambassador of CRY - Child Relief and You, created STEM curriculum for the students of CRY and also I have organized Ramadan food distribution campaign for local people since 2016.

Math Society

I have taken lead role in the Mathematics Society for the past three years. As a head of Mathematics Society, I have overseen society applications from the lower year groups, made decisions on the selection of Maths Society roles, hosted meetings to develop new initiatives and improve past ones. Currently, I have been organizing a whole school Mathematics Olympiad that requires organizing questions, running doubt clearing sessions and posting answers to some of the challenging questions. After being selected as a Wolfram Ambassador, I have started Mathematica club in the school with the idea of developing knowledge and experience in scientific tools such as Mathematica to solve some of the intriguing and challenging problems in mathematics, physics and computer science. I would like to be involved in this club and mentor future students from Dubai College even after joining university.

STEM Tutoring & Olympiad(2018-22)

Dubai STEM Olympiad is one of the top regional science competitions. The competition is held every year across hundreds of schools in the UAE with winners walking away with scholarships worth AED 100,000. I have been taking active role in this Olympiad since 2018, I have mentored 10 to 14-year old students on various STEM topics, have set up online tests, questions and solutions on mathematics, physics, data structures, computer algorithms, astronomy, rocket science and robotics for both Round 1 and Round 2 (Senior, Intermediate and Junior challenges). I have also mentored the finalists to help them solve real-world problems and demonstrate a working model of their ideas to judges.

Spring and Summer Activities

Research & Projects

Sports

I am an avid fan of football and basketball and have been participating in competitive sports since primary school days. Since Grade 8, I narrowed my focus on basketball and track & field (middle and long distance). I developed a passion for basketball over the years and became one of the key players on my school’s championship winning varsity team. Our team won many inter-school Basketball Competitions in the UAE over the last 4 years and the NYU Abudhabi World Games Championship in 2021.
